With the Delta variant fueling 99% of COVID-19 cases in the US, barbershops are more concerned about the safety and health of their clients and staff members. In the latest CNBC survey, 6 in 10 small business owners reported that the new threat is forcing them to shift their business outlook for the rest of the year.
This is happening just when the country was planning to return to the pre-pandemic routine. In a new poll (updated Aug 16, 2021), 55% of people reported that they had gotten a haircut in a barbershop within the past three months.
Thankfully, unlike the earlier phases of the pandemic, only a few cities and states are resorting to a full-scale lockdown. This means shops relying on in-person traffic, including barbershops, can continue to cater to clients.
Vaccinations to the Rescue!
The only that’s different about the latest COVID-19 wave is that people have gotten vaccinated. More than two-thirds of US adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Those fully vaccinated are protected from the worse effects of the virus.
Considering the rise of Delta variant cases, it’s not a good time to let your guards down. Get vaccinated, wear masks, and wash your hands – this is what all barbershops are emphasizing.
The Biden administration refers to the current situation as the “pandemic of the unvaccinated”. Businesses across the country are starting to ask the staff members and clients to show proof of vaccination before entering the premises.
Getting a haircut at a barbershop may seem harmless. However, it can put you at risk if you’re not vaccinated. Barbers share the same air with clients since they have to work close to their heads. While wearing a mask is critical, it’s not enough to protect you against the virus, especially since you’ll be in close proximity to your hairdresser or barber.
Getting vaccinated is a must.
Final Verdict: Is It Safe to Visit a Barbershop?
Everybody loves the feeling of walking out of a barbershop with a fresh haircut, nicely trimmed beard, or some trendy highlights. However, considering the recent surge of Delta variant cases, it’s best to avoid going to a salon unless you have to.
Make sure the barbershop isn’t crowded and the staff follows strict COVID-19 measures to ensure safety for all. Moreover, the place should have proper ventilation to ensure good airflow.
